Mustangs welcome Bruins for final matchup of the season

Feb 28, 2024 | 1:43 PM

The Melfort Mustangs will be searching for their fourth win in a row on Wednesday when they play host to the Estevan Bruins.

The Mustangs are coming off a massive victory this past Friday, their lone game of the week, which was a 7-0 demolition of the Melville Millionaires.

“Just got to keep the boots moving and keep playing hard like we have been. Feel like we’ve been clicking pretty well lately, so just gotta keep doing the same things we’ve been doing,” said forward Rhett Hamilton.

“Just got to play hard defensively that comes first and then obviously in the ozone play with confidence and be creative.”

Tonight’s meeting will be the sixth and final between the two clubs, with Melfort currently holding the series lead 3-2.

The Stangs have outscored the Bruins 17-13 to this point, when facing each other.

“They’re physical and they got a good few lines there, so we got to keep on top of their good players and make sure we can beat their goalie,” Hamilton added.

“It’d be great to come out on top of those guys this year, we have a home game here to end it, so it favours our hand and we should be able to get it done.”

With a victory on Wednesday night, the Blue and Green would guarantee home-ice advantage for at least the first round of the playoffs.

They would also leap back into third place and move just one point back of the second-place Battlefords North Stars who they will see for a pair of contests this weekend.

“A win tonight would boost our confidence a lot, especially heading into the weekend. Just having a good vibe around the room and everything after a win like that, then going into this weekend with more confidence and a good streak going would be ideal,” Hamilton told northeastNOW.

Opening puck drop against Estevan is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Northern Lights Palace.
