City of Melfort recruiting for trio of jobs

Mar 7, 2024 | 11:00 AM

The City of Melfort is looking to fill three high-profile jobs.

Director of Corporate Services Marley Seymour told northeastNOW that the Strategic Coordinator of Corporate Services is a new position with the city. Council passed the budget which approved the recruitment for this job.

“The primary role of this position is going to be the human resources and payroll administration for the city,” Seymour explained. “There will be a little bit of corporate communications that come along with it, but we believe it’s going to be a great addition to our administration team.”

According to Seymour, the duties of the position have been split up among employees who have other jobs to focus on, and having one person dedicated to human resources, payroll administration, and corporate communications will be a benefit for the City of Melfort.

Payroll and human resource experience are qualifications for the job and while a Human Resource Certificate would be preferred, experience would be considered.

Another job opening at City Hall is the Facility Manager position. That job will come open Apr. 1 when Facilities Manager Leonard Whitney takes over the role as the new Fire Chief/Emergent Management Coordinator.

“The Facility Manager position is primarily responsible for overseeing the maintenance and operations of our city facilities and parks,” Seymour explained. The city is advertising the position on its website and job boards throughout the province.

The impending retirement of Gailmarie Anderson also has the city looking for a Museum Curator and Cultural Coordinator. Seymour said that position is largely responsible for curating the local museum collections and managing the operations of the Melfort and District Museum.

There is an additional component to the job.

“Also a big portion of their job is promoting culture in our community and organizing events that are cultural-related,” said Seymour.

The positions will remain open until the right candidate is found.
