The trial against a woman charged in connection with the alleged assault of a Sandy Bay man started this week in Melfort.

Shirley Adele Bear is facing one count of aggravated assault in connection to an alleged incident in Sandy Bay dating back to July 6, 2016. Her trial started Monday at Melfort Court of Queen’s Bench.

Bear is accused of assaulting Ovide Morin. Morin, 50, testified at the trial Tuesday by video from a rehabilitation centre in Regina where he has been living. Police officers and medical personnel also testified at the trial in Melfort, the Crown said Tuesday. The Crown prosecutor in the case, Linh Le declined to speak further until the trial is concluded.

Morin’s family has been in the courtroom in Melfort, following the trial. His sister, Maggie Hunter, says Morin and Bear were in an on-again, off-again relationship at the time of the alleged incident in 2016.
