Melfort residents told to prepare for large gas flare

People who live in the Melfort area have been told not to panic if they see a large red flame Wednesday morning.

A natural gas flaring activity is planned for the north side of the city Wednesday. The work is required to allow TransGas employees and contractors to safely depressurize an existing natural gas line to secure a tie-in to a new line.

According to the Melfort and District Fire Department, the flame is expected to be visible between the hours of 7 a.m. and 8 a.m.

This action will pose no risk to the residents of Melfort and surrounding area, and will be a controlled action under the close supervision of gas line professionals, the fire department said. Residents are encouragee to stay clear of the area during this activity.
