Melfort wins Communities in Bloom Award

The Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA) revealed the results for the 2018 Saskatchewan Communities in Bloom and Melfort shined the brightest.

Melfort received five blooms, the highest rating given by the SPRA, winning the category of cities with a population of over 5,000 people, being the only community to receive five blooms, and was also given a special mention for 20 roadside attractions.

Blooms are given out based on tidiness, environmental action, heritage conservation, urban forestry, landscape and floral displays.

Ryan Danberg, Melfort’s Community Services Director, told northeastNOW the city competed in the past but the last time it received five blooms was back in 2014.

“It’s a collaboration of that group and us as a city making sure everything is kept in good order, looks presentable and clean, and working towards the goal of beautifying our city,” Danberg said.
