Humboldt Chamber hires new director

Nov 2, 2018 | 12:17 PM

Changes are on the horizon for the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber hired the former publisher of the Humboldt Journal, Brent Fitzpatrick, as the new executive director two weeks ago. Chamber President Dan Torwalt said the Chamber has a full board with 11 people and several new members. He said now is a time for renewal.

“We’ve got to revitalize ourselves here, it’s been in a little bit of a funk for the last couple of years,” Torwalt said. “Now, with a new front office in there, it’s going to be exciting, just a chance to work with the business community.”

Personal issues for the last couple Chamber directors has made for some tough times for the organization, according to Torwalt. The most recent executive director, Stacey Poss, departed from her role last month due to personal reasons.

The priority for the Chamber is to make business and network connections, Torwalt added.

Fitzpatrick said he is looking forward to bringing his skills to the position of executive director.

“I respect the Chamber and where it fits in the Humboldt and district and those skills could be very well-suited to the job and just to helping out here,” Fitzpatrick said.

Fitzpatrick said in his first few months, he will simply be learning and meeting with the Chamber board. However, he is looking forward to upcoming events, including the 20th Annual Mark of Excellence Awards in March, and the Festival of Lights beginning this month.
