Construction underway at new Pineland Co-op Agro site

Pineland Co-op in Nipawin continues to expand.

A new Agro site is currently in the works for the store. An 11,000 sq. ft. chemical and seed warehouse that would also include office space and storage is already under construction. Ag division manager Tim Perkins said it was time for an upgrade.

“As our sales have increased over the years, we’ve outgrown our storage capacity,” Perkins said. “This facility will allow us to provide more efficient customer service, while offering a wide product selection in the large quantities that today’s customers require.”

The project will be done in three stages, with the first being the chemical and seed warehouse that is expected to be completed for the spring 2019 season. After that, a modern bulk seed facility, and liquid fertilizer storage will be added.

The old facility located closer to town than the new one, will remain as property of Pineland Co-Op and will be used for storage of other products sold in the Agro department. Perkins said this project enhances their local service.

“By investing in projects like this, we’re insuring that our member customers have local access to the most up to date services and products,” Perkins said. “And that they don’t have to go away from the community to make their purchases. In the larger context, I think it reflects on the confidence that we have in the local economy, and hopefully that reflects on the community as a whole.”

Perkins added that the next stages are “on the fairly near horizon.”
