Ribbon cutting held to celebrate renovations at PLUS Industries

PLUS Industries in Melfort has cut the ribbon at their renovated day program facility, and employment centre.

On Friday Nov. 30 dignitaries and supporters were in attendance to explore the much improved facility. Board Chair Ed Bourassa called it “a wonderful day”.

“It has been a long time coming,” Bourassa said. “As a board, we have been envisioning this for almost three years, and working on it for the past year. So, it’s really exciting today to be able to officially open the project and really exciting to see the number of people that have turned out to help us celebrate.”

With the renovations going on for about a year, some operations needed to move to other buildings including the Ag Society, and Wildlife Federation facilities. Bourassa said it has been a real team effort.

“The past year has certainly been a year where we have experienced some disruption in our program,” Bourassa said. “But the fact that so many people have worked together from all different areas of our organization, has really made this day very very special.”

Bourassa added the response from participants so far has been excellent.

“They love coming into a building that’s welcoming, clean, it’s efficient,” he said. “And it just makes their day here so much more enjoyable.”

Program Coordinator Melanie Erickson has been working with PLUS Industries for 29 years and said she is very proud of how the project turned out.

“It’s a great place that we can bring people that are wanting to enter into our program,” Erickson said. “Or considering what is after high school. We can bring them here, and they can feel confident in what we have to offer with this.”

Operations moved back into the building on Nov. 1, according to Bourassa. Erickson added that she hopes this project can continue to help grow the program.
