Staff at the Humboldt Hospital will soon have a new infant incubator after a major donation to fund the unit was made over the weekened.

The Humboldt District Hospital Foundation (HDHF) was presented with a $46,000 cheque from the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation, and Synergy 8.

HDHF Executive Director Lorrie Bunko told northeastNOW the incubator was listed as a critical need.

“Earlier in 2018, we were given the heads up that our exisitng incubator which is 25 years old needed to be replaced,” Bunko said.

Shortly after the Broncos bus crash on April 6, 2018, the foundation board received a phone call indicating the three organizations wanted to do something for the community of Humboldt and the district.

“More specifically they wanted to help our kids and it happened that incubator showed up on that list as a critical need and this is how this all become a reality,” Bunko said.

The total cost of the incubator is $43,000 and the remaining $3,000 from the recent donation will be put into the foundation’s general fund.

Bunko said the incubator will arrive around the week of Feb. 13.
