Semi destroyed by fire in Codette

Nov 25, 2022 | 1:48 PM

A semi was destroyed by fire early Friday morning in the village of Codette.

According to Paul Cockell, Chief of the Nipawin Fire Department, the call came in just after 2 a.m.

When they arrived, firefighters found the truck fully engulfed in flames, but Cockell said no fire spread to the adjacent building. It was, however, a bit stubborn to put out.

“It wasn’t terribly hard to put the flame out,” said Cockell. “But just like any fire in a vehicle, you’ve got lots of little nooks and crannies so it does take a lot of water to put these things out once the plastics and upholsteries and stuff like that are on fire.”

Cockell said the semi had been parked and was not in use when the fire broke out, so determining the cause is still up in the air.

“It’s still pretty early at this point,” he said. There is also no firm estimate of damage, he added.

Codette is about 10 kilometres south of Nipawin. It’s one of several communities and RM’s that the Nipawin Fire Department provides service for.
