Construction at McDonald’s site in Melfort set for spring

Big Macs and McNuggets could be coming to Melfort as soon as the end of the calendar year.

According to Brent Lutz, the director of development planning and community relations with the City of Melfort, things are progressing when it comes to getting a McDonald’s at the Stonegate Shopping Centre.

“The city has processed a development permit for the property owned by McDonald’s for the construction of a restaurant,” Lutz said. “We’re in the process of finalizing the building permit and anticipate construction will start early in the spring.”

Lutz said there is no specific timeline for the build, but it shouldn’t take too long once it has started.

“We don’t have a specific timeline as far as for the completion,” Lutz told northeastNOW. “We expect that construction will start once they are able to get in the ground here in the spring. They use a pre-cast building system that goes up pretty fast.”

“I guess one could anticipate that they certainly will be open sometime this year.” -Brent Lutz

As for the rest of the Stonegate area, there is a set of lights at the south-end of Stonegate Boulevard which are currently inactive. Lutz said that those should become active at some point soon.

“Those lights have been deactivated until we have traffic generated at that intersection,” Lutz said. “The new lighting systems have sensors that pick up vehicles. Therefore, until there is traffic on those roads, we’ve chosen to disable those lights. So, I anticipate at some time this summer that you will see those lights activated again.”

Most recently, some repaving was done on the access road in and around that site to prepare for more developments.
