Meditation Garden

Meditation garden to be installed at Mount Pleasant Cemetery

Apr 16, 2019 | 2:09 PM

Melfort Communities in Bloom is putting their focus on a meditation garden at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Over half of the $24,000 required to build has already been fundraised.

Shannon Marshall said the garden is an exciting addition to the work the group does in the community.

“A 20 by 20 area is what we are fundraising for. It’s going to include shrubbery, plants, pavers, and we have a local art piece going in there as well,” Marshall said.

Two granite benches are being built and a bench designed by Rob Jung will also be installed.

“He’s got 160 man-hours into the bench and we are going to have a life-sized angel that sits beside it and he’s got 85 hours into that piece already,” Marshall said.

The lasting memorial will also have signage at the site for those who sponsor it.

The group is also competing at a national level this year which was announced back in February after receiving five blooms at the provincial level last year.

“We do things like a bake sale at the mall, a cookie walk, and we’re hopefully going to do a barbecue,” Marshall said.

The group has also been canvassing the community for donations and the general public can also donate specifically to this project.

According to Marshall, the Communities in Bloom judges will be in Melfort in July.
