North East SPCA making a call for volunteers

Jul 26, 2019 | 11:26 AM

As the completion of the Harry and Eve VIckar animal shelter draws near, the North East SPCA is hoping to recruit more volunteers.

The group is hosting an information session according to Volunteer Coordinator Kristi Lamb.

“We’re hoping to have a good set of volunteers that come in fairly often to help us out,” Lamb said.

Along with helping out with the animals, there are other volunteer opportunities outside of the shelter. Other duties would include helping out with fundraising events and the grand opening gala.

Lamb told northeastNOW they plan to have a soft opening by the end of August or the beginning of September. The gala to celebrate the completion of the long awaited shelter is slated for September 27.

“By the grand opening we are hoping to have some animals in there,” Lamb said.

With the size of the shelter and the large service area, the more people that are willing to volunteer, the better.

The information session will cover topics such as what volunteers would be doing, and who can volunteer.

“Even people who don’t have experience with animals there is still stuff that they can do and then we can help with getting you more warmed up to animals too,” Lamb said.

The come and go session will be held at RJ’s Urban Garden on Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
