Tisdale Kinettes open Rae’s Sports Action Park

The Tisdale Kinettes completed its service for Tisdale’s youth and a monument for a late friend.

Rae’s Sports Action Park had its soft opening on Tuesday, Aug. 27 after taking nearly five years to complete with its discussion, planning, fundraising, and construction.

The skate park was named in memory of Raelene Franklin, a committed member to the Tisdale Kinettes and volunteer in the town, who passed away after losing her battle with cancer in the summer of 2018.

Mandy Russell, a member with the Tisdale Kinettes, said they named the park after Raelene to keep her legend alive within the town, to inspire future generations of Tisdale residents to always help others, be kind, and volunteer in the community.

“She always volunteered her time, gave to everybody else, and was just a wonderful person,” Russell said. “She actually started this skate park and pushed to get it happening in our community quite a few years ago. I know Raelene would be absolutely thrilled if she could be here today to see this. To see this park complete was her dream; she wanted to do something for the younger people of our community.”

Russell said the Tisdale Kinettes were able to raise the near $200,000 for construction costs with fundraisers and support from the community such as service clubs, trust funds, and business sponsors.

Rae’s Sports Action Park features a bump track, half-pipes, and ramps for bikers and skateboarders.

The Tisdale Kinettes will hold a grand opening for Rae’s Sports Action Park on Saturday, Sept. 21 with a barbecue lunch, demonstrations by experienced riders, and local bike and scooter competitions.
