Pathlow rail incident under investigation

Oct 15, 2019 | 4:32 PM

An incident involving two CN Rail locomotives near Pathlow on Saturday was not a collision.

CN Rail’s Jonathan Abecassis said in an email the crew was attempting a routine coupling procedure. He added the crew aboard one of the locomotives suffered minor injuries.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada spokesperson Dean Campbell said they were aware of the incident.

“Right now we’re gathering information and assessing what exactly took place to determine the next steps,” Campbell said. “It’s early. We haven’t got a whole lot of information yet. That’s why the staff are investigating and doing the information gathering and doing the assessment.”

According to the Melfort Fire and Rescue Facebook page St. Brieux Fire Department, Melfort Fire, Melfort Ambulance, Melfort RCMP and CN Police responded to the scene.

CN Rail said there were no dangerous goods or fires involved, rail cars remained on the tracks and there was no danger to public safety.

The tracks were reopened on Sunday.
