Melfort’s Christmas Castle returning for a second year

For the second Christmas season in a row, Melfort’s Christmas Castle is set to open tonight.

The community project was a vision of a local doctor who felt there should be more activity on Main Street over the holidays.

Melfort’s Dr. Adeyemi Laosebikan and his wife, Foluke put the gears in motion over two years ago and it has proved to be a success.

“There was a total of more than 3,000 that walked through and raised more than $6,000 for the North Central Health Care Foundation,” Laosebikan said.

The couple is hoping to bring in more funds and more people through the door this year.

The project is brought to life through a lot of community support through donations and volunteer hours.

“We are open to volunteers if people want to do that, when they walk through they can let us know and we will put that to good use,” Laosebikan said.

Laosibekan added there many people that came yesterday to assist with set up.

“Without the volunteers and the generosity of people of Melfort and surrounding businesses, it wouldn’t be the success that it is,” Laosebikan said.

The tour through the light display is capped off with hot apple cider, popcorn and other treats.

There will also be a spot and opportunity for live music as well over the course of the Christmas Castle event.

Admission into the Christmas Castle at the Melfort Historic Post Office is free but donations are being collected again this year for the NCHCF as well as the restoration of the post office building.
