Tisdale Rambler Rodeo and Trade Fair postponed

Mar 27, 2020 | 2:43 PM

Another spring event in the northeast that has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Tisdale Rambler Rodeo and Trade Fair – hosted by the Tisdale Ramblers Senior Hockey Club – won’t run at the Tisdale RECplex from April 16 to 18 as initially intended.

Provincial and municipal health guidelines, including Tisdale’s public facilities being shut down and the province limiting public gatherings to 10 people maximum, are implemented to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The Canadian Cowboys Association would also have their insurance invalid if the event were to take place.

Good news for rodeo enthusiasts and the Tisdale Ramblers is the plan is still to host the event in the summer, if the COVID-19 pandemic passes and restrictions are lifted.

“We’re currently working on alternate dates in the third week of June or the third week of August,” President of the Tisdale Ramblers Neil Elmslie told northeastNOW. “It’s our only source of income. Running a senior hockey club is not cheap and trying to keep one alive and well is a full-time job. I moved to Tisdale in ’91, and at that time this was already the fundraiser. If we don’t have it, we’re going to be in trouble. And we’re not going to be the only ones for sure.”

Cancelling the rodeo and trade fair is a last resort for the Ramblers. Elmslie hopes the potential June dates is possible because the last date they could host the event would be in August before the ice is in the RECplex.

Pre-purchased tickets will still be honoured at the rodeo and trade fair’s new date.
