Melfort tax notices

Property tax notices being distributed in Melfort

May 19, 2020 | 1:00 PM

Property owners in Melfort will receive their property tax notices in the mail over the next few days.

Taxes are due June 30 of each year, unless you participate in the Tax Installment Payment Plan (TIPP), which features monthly payments. Those monthly payments will be adjusted to reflect any changes to your property tax amount for 2020.

Director of Development, Planning and Community Relations Brent Lutz told northeastNOW there are supports in place for property owners struggling due to the pandemic.

“This year, to support our citizens, and to assist them during the COVID-19 pandemic, council has made provisions that penalties will not be applied to taxes if they are paid by September 30,” Lutz said. “That does allow property owners some time if they require that in order to pay their taxes.”

Lutz said residents will also receive their notice of assessment with the tax notices. He said it’s important to take note if your assessment has changed over the past year due to improvements or additions to your property.

All property owners have an opportunity to appeal the value of their property, and they must do so by July 13, 2020. Lutz said anyone with questions about their assessment, or anyone who wishes to appeal their property value, can contact City Hall at 306-752-5911 to talk to the assessor.
