NESD replacing sections of roof at Reynolds Central School

The North East School Division (NESD) will soon be replacing sections of the roof at Reynolds Central School in Melfort.

The work is expected to take two weeks this summer and was approved at a recent school division meeting.

“We’re happy that there won’t be an interruption to classes or the school year,” North East School Division Director of Education Don Rempel said.

A local contractor had originally said the project would cost $85,000, but the estimate is now $200,000 after the engineering drawings were finished.

The amount changed because a residential per square metre rate was used for the first estimate instead of a commercial rate.

The money will come from the preventative maintenance and renewal fund the North East School Division received from the Saskatchewan government in the 2019-2020 year.

“We’re always happy to see our facilities improved and to use our preventative and maintenance repair dollars to keep the state of our older schools in good condition,” Rempel said.

Reynolds Central School was built in 1962, but Rempel said the school won’t be replaced in the near future.

“That means we have to fix up our roof when we have the opportunity to do it,” Rempel added.
