Jan 18, 2022 | 5:00 PM

BHP, an international mining company, is calling all local businesses in the Humboldt area to take part in the Jansen Stage one Potash Project.

On Feb 3 at 10:00 a.m. the company will be giving a project overview. The hour and a half long event will include an opportunity for questions and information on how local businesses can join the project.

Brent Fitzpatrick, executive director of the Humboldt & District Chamber of Commerce, said the chamber is proud to be one of the event sponsors.

“BHP, are dropping a $7 billion hole in the ground not that far from us so there is going to be an awful lot of spin-off businesses.”

Engineering, procurement and construction management partner Hatch Bantrel Joint Venture will also be in attendance.

“So the session is to educate business owners as to what they are looking at in order to be able to do business with BHP.”

Fitzpatrick said this meeting will expand the way business owners think of the word local.

“This is one of the things our local business community might not be aware of, when it comes to BHP their perspective for shopping local is Saskatchewan. It’s not just our area, it’s the entire province.”

The meeting will detail what the competitive bidding model looks like for prospective businesses hoping to become a part of the project.

Businesses are encouraged to think outside of the box and prove why they are the best in their field when it comes to Saskatchewan made.

“It’s a great system but you have to know what you need to bring to the table.”

The seminar is being held digitally and is free for anyone to attend. All businesses hoping to submit a question are asked to do so at the time of registration.
