$1,000 donated for Lake Charron picnic tables

Last Friday, thanks to Good Sam, Lake Charron was the recipient of 10 new picnic tables.

On Wednesday, the Good Sam Club also presented the Lake Charron Regional Park with two cheques, totalling $1,000 to help pay for the cost of the building materials.

Due to recent water rising issues at the lake, the board was forced to relocate some services and spend their budget fixing many other issues.

Former Saskatchewan Director of the Good Sam Club, Jim Brady told northeastNOW this was one of the projects where they needed financial assistance.

“The park has had a lot of financial expenditures, their water system and their septic system, they had to move and a lot of cleanup due to the rising water. I think they really appreciated the financial assistance and to get this place back to the good camping facility that it is.”

The building of these tables also couldn’t have come at a better time, as Naicam is set to hold its 100th anniversary, this July and will likely be using the park as a part of the celebration.

“A lot of people are camping out at Lake Sharon as well as around, so a lot of people will be coming home for this,” he said. “We wanted to have this project completed, so they could use it and I think they appreciated us getting on it and doing it as quick as we did.”

As for the volunteers, there were a total of 12 members who came out to build the 10 picnic tables, something Brady said is nothing new for this group.

“We’ve actually built tables before for other regional parties, so our crew is pretty well experienced on it and we did it a lot quicker than we ever expected to put it together. In all the years I’ve been involved with Good Sam, we put the call out for assistance and they just come and we have no problem. In fact, sometimes we have too many members, which is all great.”

And Brady was also sure to mention how great it felt to finally complete this project, as it’s been a few years in the making.

“About three years ago, I was approached for assistance at Lake Charron Regional Park and we were considering it and then COVID took over and everything came to a standstill. We reopened our negotiations again, back in spring and they badly needed picnic tables. We’re glad to be able to have now helped them and we’re happy to have this achievement.”
