This weekend beginning Friday at the Centennial Arena the Nipawin Hawks will host their annual Parent-Billet event alongside back-to-back home games.

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) club takes on the Kindersley Klippers in the first game. The Hawks have won their last two games including a 5-1 rout of La Ronge in the teams last game on Nov. 4. Assistant Captain Alex Johnson said the team is excited for the next couple games.

We had a great week of practice, guys are feeling good, we’re rolling right now, and we look to continue that into this weekend,” Johnson said after the teams gameday skate.

The team will recognize the each players family and community hosts prior to Saturday’s showdown with the SJHL’s top-ranked Battleford’s North Stars. Johnson said to have his family visit from Calgary and experience the northeast Saskatchewan town is special.

“Getting on the ice and knowing you have family in the stands, and all the guys have their families in the stands, it really gives you that extra push to secure a win and send them home happy,” he said.

Alongside the Johnson family for the presentation will be the Pickering family, who have billeted Johnson for his entire three-year career with the Hawks. He said adding this weekend to his list of memories with the Pickering’s is also a memorable moment.

“They are so special, and so kind,” Johnson said. “To allow me to live in their home, to help with their kids, and create those relationships, I have been so lucky. You don’t hear many bad things about billets, especially in Nipawin, they create happy hockey players.”

Saturday’s presentations will begin at 6:45 p.m.

Face-off on both Friday and Saturday will be 7 p.m.
