Travel not recommended on area highways
Saskatchewan Highway Hotline is reporting poor visibility, swirling snow, slippery sections and other conditions that make travel not recommended at this time.
The mixture of rain, snow and wind is making it challenging for drivers. Posts on social media highway condition groups encourage other drivers to stay home and feature pictures of several vehicles in the ditches. Tow truck companies are reporting wait times of several hours.
As of 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Hwy 6 south of Melfort to Silver Park was closed.
Environment Canada is calling for two to four centimetres of snow in the Melfort area today with winds gusting to 60 kilometres per hour this afternoon and a high of zero. With the windchill, it will feel like -14 C.
