ePermitting portal in Humboldt

City of Humboldt launches ePermitting portal to simplify permit applications

Residents and developers in Humboldt can now apply for building permits online.

The new ePermitting program is available through the City of Humboldt’s website.

Chief Building Official Mike Kwasnica told northeastNOW says the ePermitting portal is an attachment the city has signed onto with their CityReporter online database they use for doing building inspections. He said people can log onto the city’s website and start the process to apply for a permit.

“It just makes things a little bit easier, they’re not waiting to talk to somebody, they can start the process and enter all the information that’s required for a building permit and upload the documents,” explained Kwasnica.

Once that has happened, the city receives an email notification that someone has applied for a permit.

Kwasnica said the ePermitting program allows for more flexibility.

“This way if you want to apply for a permit on Sunday evening when you’re thinking about it, you can do that. It’s in our inbox for Monday morning,” Kwasnica said. If the city has any questions about the permit, they have the applicant’s email address and can email them with questions or concerns about the permit.

The city will also get back to the applicant about the cost of the permit.

“We do have some signoffs that each of the departments will have to do before the permit’s able to be issued, so that’s also part of the CityReporter software it gives us the ability to track all of the inspections that are done internally and externally when we’re doing building inspections out in the field,” Kwasnica explained. The program also tracks any internal inspection audits than need to be done before a permit is issued.

Kwasnica said the city has been looking at an ePermitting program for quite a while, and another added benefit is eliminating the need for paper in these types of transactions. He admitted there may be some growing pains with the new program, but if anyone has questions or concerns, they can contact the city.
