‘A lasting impact’: NCHCF receives $1.5 million commitment

Jul 14, 2026 | 2:26 PM

An incredible commitment to the future of health care in Melfort.

The North Central Health Care Foundation (NCHCF) has received an over $1.5 million commitment from Consolation Housing Inc.

The money will go toward the purchase of medical equipment in Melfort.

“It’s absolutely wonderful,” NCHCF Executive Director Sarah Taylor said. “I think it’s so special because their contribution is such a legacy gift that will continue to serve our community.”

Taylor said every individual, regardless of age, relies on health care services at some point, and this is a donation that impacts everyone in the community.

The money has not yet been earmarked for any specific equipment or upgrade, and Taylor said there is no shortage of items that need attention. She said while there is lots of equipment that needs to be replaced, there are other initiatives as well.

“We carefully look at each item brought forward to us – we have not made a significant commitment at this point,” Taylor explained. “However, we are very proud and good stewards of all donations, and we will carefully consider where our money is best spent within the health care system.”

Taylor said it’s a beautiful thing that the NCHCF was chosen by the Consolation Housing Board to receive the donation.

“This donation will leave a lasting impact.”

Consolation Housing Inc. was a provincial housing initiative launched nearly 40 years ago “to create a mixed housing community serving Melfort and area,” the NCHCF news release stated. The original founding members were Rod Gantefoer, Dr. Ray Pannell, Terry Hoenmans, Harry Miazga, Andy LeBlanc, and Nicole Pyle, with the endorsement of the Our Lady of Consolation Parish.

From there, Consolation Housing Inc. partnered with Saskatchewan Housing Corporation to operate Consolation Manor as affordable social housing, managed with the support of the Melfort Housing Authority.

In 2024, the agreement with Saskatchewan Housing Corporation concluded, and the board began the process of dissolving Consolation Housing Inc. The Consolation Housing Board in 2026 includes Dawn Strinholm, Mark Miazga, Jacquie Sandelin, Clyde Lynn, Rod Gantefoer, and Norma Packer.
