Hepatitis A exposure warning at Saskatoon drug store

People who visited the Shoppers Drug Mart in Saskatoon’s Centre Mall (Circle and 8th Street East) this past month are being warned they may have been exposed to Hepatitis A.

The warning period is from Feb. 27 until March 19.

Anyone who bought food and beverage items and did not use self-checkout should call HealthLine at 811 for instructions.

Anyone exposed in the last 14 days may be eligible for the Hepatitis A vaccine to decrease the likelihood of contracting the disease.

Exposure to Hepatitis A may have occurred during the following times:

Hepatitis A is a liver infection caused by a virus that is spread by ingesting something that has been contaminated with the stool (feces) of someone who has the disease.

It can cause the following symptoms: loss of appetite, dark urine, light stool, tiredness, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, and jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes). Serious complications may include liver failure and death.
