Melfort jewelry store closing after more than 70 years of business

Apr 2, 2024 | 4:27 PM

Assaly Diamond and Fine Jewelry Boutique will soon be no longer.

The locally owned and operated business has been in Melfort for over 70 years, having been passed down to multiple different owners along the way.

Now the current, Jeremy Markwart, is ready to get out of the jewelry business after more than 20 years.

“I’m closing my jewelry store, we’re gonna sell off all the inventory, so it’s gonna be a huge wall to wall sale, which starts on Thursday morning. The store has been here 70 years and we’re closing it down and I’m going to do something different,” he told northeastNOW.

“I needed a change; I’ve been in the jewelry business for 25 years and it was time for me to make a change.”

Markwart is the fourth owner of Assaly, having run the location for the past 21 years.

He views it as a cornerstone of the Melfort business community for over 70 years and thanks all the loyal customers for continuously supporting it.

“We’re grateful for the customers that we’ve had over the last 70 years, more specifically for me the last 20 years, we’ve had great support here in the Northeast. It’s been a great 21 years in Melfort, in the jewelry business,” he added.

Markwart has yet to reveal what his next journey is, but assured the community that he will be staying in Melfort.

Along with Assaly set to hold their “biggest sale ever”, Markwart is reminding folks to get their repairs done before it closes, as it is currently the only jewelry place in town that does such a thing.
