A group of Melfort dancers came away with several honours after a recent dance competition in Moose Jaw.

Melfort Dance Centre (MDC) Director Jennifer Mauvieux said they sent 68 entries, children ranging in ages from seven to 17, to the Moose Jaw Carnival dance competition.

The students from the Melfort Dance Centre won several medals, awards, and scholarships at the event, including the top overall mark for their Advanced Contemporary group, entitled “Time”.

MDC instructor Courtney Chupa choreographed “Time”, which was danced by Hailey Armstrong, Harper Blevins, Avery Davidson, Julia Enge, Alexa Ferguson, Marli Fettis, Daelyn Fouillard, Nora Friesen, Grace Haidey, Avery Hinrichsen, Callie Johnstone, Breelyn March, Camryn McDermid, Graisyn McLean, Jada Nogier, Gracie Romanow, Afton Thornton, Delaney Tluchak, Ava Weber and Morgan Woolsey.

“It was an exciting opportunity for Melfort dancers to attend Moose Jaw Carnival. The students were able to expand their knowledge and appreciation for the varying styles of dance in the province,” Mauvieux said. “The competition atmosphere was friendly and fun. The dancers made many special memories with their teammates and with new friends from other dance studios. We are so proud of the hard work our dancers put in to prepare at the studio and for the way they represented the North East in Moose Jaw, both on and off stage.”

The Melfort Dance Club will take that success and hope to expand on it at the Prince Albert Festival of Dance Wednesday, April 10. Eighty-seven entries will attend the P.A. festival.
