Mustangs stay busy ahead of SJHL draft, acquire Sadlemyer from AJHL

The Melfort Mustangs are continuing to make roster moves early, this offseason.

Following the acquisition of Nick Andrusiak and another draft pick in this year’s draft, the Mustangs have picked up a forward from the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL).

Zayden Sadlemyer will be joining the Blue and Green, following a one-year stint with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons.

The Buena Vista, Sask. product played a combined 41 games with Fort Mac. this past season, registering two goals and three assists.

“Zayden will bring a high compete level that is needed to be a Melfort Mustang,” said head coach and general manager, Trevor Blevins. “He plays the game with a big motor and speed for all 200 feet of ice, which Mustang fans will appreciate.”

Prior to his time in Alberta, the 2005-born forward spent three seasons in the Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League, two of which came with the Regina Pat Canadians.

In 89 regular season and playoff games, he piled up 27 goals and 49 assists for 76 points.

The five-foot-eleven, 170-pounder also played one year with the Estevan Bears, collecting two assists in just six games, due to the COVID-shortened season.

Sadlemyer has two games of SJHL experience with the Melville Millionaires, however, has yet to pick up his first point.

He will wait to report to the Stangs until training camp, later this summer.
