Mustangs financially well-off as ever following successful cup run

“We saw the financials, and I think you can 100 per cent put that on the fans really getting behind this team, and the community really getting behind this team. As far as sponsors, just donating money and time and everything like that, as well as packing the building, financially, we’re in as good a position as we’ve been any time that I’ve been on the board and that’s by far,” Lee added.

With a little extra liquidity this year, the Mustangs are now just focused on trying to replicate the success of last season, using some extra funds towards the on-ice product when required.

Whether that’s trades, facility upgrades, or anything they can do to increase the level of experience that players have in Melfort, it’s all on the table.

“It definitely sets us up to be in a position where we’re trying to attain that level again. As far as the on-ice product is concerned, money probably wouldn’t be an object, as long as it’s going to make the team better,” concluded Lee.

“As far as what we plan to do with any additional funds, I think it’s always a smart idea to keep some back, especially in the way that money can come and go in this league. When I started on this board, we definitely weren’t in the position we are today, but that being said, I think there are definitely going to be some upgrades to the facilities and things like that for the players this year.”

Currently, the Mustangs’ net assets are $499,228 compared to $288,341 in 2023, their excess of revenue over expenses is $119,231 compared to -$869, their total revenue was $1,198,075 compared to $782,591, their cash resources are $251,784 compared to $42,546, and their total expenses were $1,078,844 compared to $783,460.

Melfort’s quest to get back to the Centennial Cup final begins next weekend when they host their Fall Camp.
