Raising funds: NESPCA hosting anniversary celebration next month

Sep 25, 2024 | 5:00 PM

The North East SPCA (NESPCA) is hosting a celebration next month to mark a milestone.

The five-year anniversary celebration will take place Oct. 26 at the Kerry Vickar Centre.

Doors open at 5:30, with a catered supper courtesy of O The Taste Catering. The comedy group Don’t Mind Us Comedy will take the stage from 8 to 9 p.m. with music to follow until midnight.

Individual tickets are $60, with tables of eight for between $500 and $1,000 with a variety of perks and options.

NESPCA Vice President of Communications Bill Wood told northeastNOW the event is part of the organization’s Save Our Shelter (SOS) campaign, as they seek to raise money to keep the Harry and Eve Vickar Centre in operation.

“We’re hoping it’s going to be a terrific fundraiser for us,” said Wood. “We’re hoping to raise well over ten, twelve thousand dollars.”

The organization raised a red flag about the shelter last month, indicating they may have to close the doors if they don’t raise significant funds. Wood said the community has responded since then, with about $18,000 raised since going public with their plea.

“That has bought us an extra month-and-a-half, which is very, very good.”

Wood said they’re working to solidify some major donations and hope to have some more good news in the future.

For tickets to the anniversary celebration, you can e-transfer to tres@northeastspca.org with your name and mailing address. Tickets are also available at the Harry and Eve Vickar Shelter and by cheque to NESPCA, Box 189, Melfort.

The SPCA is also urgently hiring a kennel manager, and you can send your resume to jobs@northeasSPCA.org.
