Year in Review: Team Ackerman wins Viterra Scotties in Tisdale

Dec 24, 2024 | 10:00 AM

A major sports story in 2024 in the northeast was the Viterra Scotties held in Tisdale.

The successful event culminated in a victory by Skylar Ackerman and her team from the Nutana Curling Club in Saskatoon, as she edged Nancy Martin’s team from Martensville 10-9 in an extra end.

Ackerman told northeastNOW the victory was unreal.

“It’s been a dream for all of us since we were little kids, so to finally come away with that green jacket and get into the Scotties is pretty amazing.”

The feat was even more significant considering Ackerman’s team was the youngest in the competition. Ackerman said the team fought some nerves early in the competition but were able to overcome them to advance to the final.

She told northeastNOW’s Ben Tompkins the event in Tisdale was incredible.

“The week was absolutely amazing, the ice is always so good, with lots of curl, so we could make some really fun shots here this week. The volunteers, the sponsors, all the event coordinators and everything just made it such a fun and easy week for us and we just had a blast and it wouldn’t be possible without all of them,” explained Ackerman.

Ackerman’s rink put forward a solid effort for their first time at the Scotties in Calgary. They finished the competition with a 4-4 record.
