Workout for fun

A fun workout event between local Girl Guides and Melfort RCMP

Some fun and some sweat at a recent event involving Girl Guides and the RCMP.

Local Girl Guides and the Melfort RCMP recently worked on their fitness at the Kerry Vickar Centre in Melfort.

Melfort RCMP and Melfort Combined Traffic Services hosted Girl Guides troops from Melfort, Nipawin and Tisdale for a workout and some fun, too.

RCMP Fitness and Health Promotion Advisor, Kyle Arndt and local RCMP officers set up a fitness and obstacle course inspired by RCMP physical testing.Participants had to crawl, run, hurdle and jump in the course.

The 38 Girl Guide participants were taken through warm-up, stretches and multiple rounds of the course by the RCMP members.

“The race got very competitive as they cheered on their teams,” Arndt said. “The main goal was to make it a fun experience and something the Girl Guides would remember.”

The Girl Guide teams challenged each other in a relay, and there were also dueling rounds of jumping jacks, push-ups, and running laps. It all wrapped up with cool-down exercises, and a question-and-answer session with Melfort RCMP officers.

“This was a really great event where our officers demonstrated the importance of fitness for policing,” said Arndt.

Staff Sgt. Ryan Case said “these events let youth and their parents experience police in a different way and become comfortable with approaching and engaging with RCMP officers.”
