Nipawin Exhibition returns Monday following big community birthday

Jul 10, 2025 | 2:48 PM

Summer celebrations continue in Nipawin.

The community is commemorating 100 years starting on Friday, and that event will run through Sunday. Following the birthday and homecoming events, the annual Nipawin Exhibition gets underway Monday and runs through Wednesday.

Nipawin Exhibition Association Past-President Deb Lacheur told northeastNOW the event promises to be a lot of fun.

The Kinsmen Booth Breakfast will kick things off Monday morning at 7 a.m. and will be held at the same time the following two days. Other events on Monday include the light horse show, beef show, petting zoo, beer garden, heavy horse show and more.

The midway will once again be run by West Coast Amusements all three days, but Lacheur said it will open a little later Monday, at 5 p.m., due to them having to travel from Lloydminster on Sunday.

Lacheur said the association is excited to have the exhibition right after the homecoming and birthday celebrations.

“We’re very happy that it’s all kind of being run together,” said Lacheur. “From Friday to Wednesday night – just filled with fun for the community and anyone that’s coming home.”

A new heavy horse arena was established last year, and Lacheur said that led to some of the most interest they’ve ever had at the event, with a permanent ring set up this year. Heavy horse show driving will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, twice on Tuesday, and once in the morning on Wednesday. Several other favourites are returning this year, including chuckwagon races at 6:30 p.m. each day.

The first two nights of entertainment at the grandstand will have some local talent. Drew Derksen of Carrot River and the Derksen Brothers will be featured Monday night. Carrot River native Ashley Borody’s Ultimate Tribute to Adele will take place the following night, with The Long Run – Canada’s Salute to the Eagles – closing things out on Wednesday.

“We’re pretty excited about all of those things,” Lacheur said.

A secondary stage will be set up on the grounds during the day with a variety of artists and children’s entertainment.

Lacheur said discounted ride coupons for $45 are going very quickly, and they’re hoping to sell them through Sunday. She also reminded everyone to come out to the parade at 1 p.m. on Sunday as the unofficial kickoff to the event.
