Chicken coop, bush fires keep local fire crews busy

A pair of fires in the area yesterday had crews from Melfort and Kinistino responding. 

The Melfort Fire Department was called to reports of a chicken coop fire south of Star City early Wednesday evening. 

The coop and a few bales were found burning when firefighters arrived. 

Though the fire was quickly extinguished, Melfort Fire Chief Leonard Whitney confirms that chickens died in the blaze. 

The Kinistino Fire Department was called to a bush fire in the RM of Kinistino late Wednesday afternoon.

Crews were able to stop forward progress with the help of their global medic fire skid, and the blaze was quickly brought under control.
