There will now be two graduating Nipawin Hawks headed to Camrose, Alta., to play for the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings.

Forward Brendan Olson recently announced his commitment to the Vikings, as he now joins forward Carter Anderson, who committed earlier this year.

“I loved my time in Nipawin. It was the closest group of guys I’ve ever had on a team, they were awesome. I’m lucky to be joining Carter in Camrose; it’ll be a great time with him, and I’m just really happy I got to spend the end of my career in the SJHL with the Hawks,” explained Olson.

Olson spent the past three seasons in the SJHL, notably joining the Hawks this previous campaign because of a mid-season trade.

Overall, the 21-year-old spent a combined 37 games in Nipawin, registering 25 points (4G, 21A).

“I’m really excited about my commitment. I’m actually already in my third year of psychology with the University, having done the last two years online, so I’m really happy to get to be a part of the team now and continue to play hockey while going to school,” Olson told northeastNOW.

“I was really fortunate to have spent my hockey career in the SJHL. I definitely won’t forget the memories I’ve made, and all the friends and teammates I’ve gotten to play with. I really got pushed to grow as a player, I had coaches put their faith in me, and I’ve been able to be a part of great communities.”

Prior to his time with the Black and Gold, Olson suited up for exactly 100 games with the Melville Millionaires, where he produced 58 points (23G, 35A).

The St. Albert, Alta., native also got to be a part of Team SJHL over the 2025/26 Christmas Break, where he experienced his new home firsthand at the Viking Cup.

“Part of Augustana’s recruitment was how hard they pushed for the Viking Cup to come back. I had an amazing experience there, and they were really enthusiastic about getting players to play there. I definitely look forward to this coming year when I’m on the other side of that experience and facing the SJHLers. It’s a great event for the organization and all the teams that go to it,” Olson added.
