Hawks seek first win in clash with Klippers
The Nipawin Hawks return to the ice Friday seeking their first win of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) regular season.
After losing two one-goal games on opening weekend to Flin Flon and La Ronge, the Hawks will host out-of-division opponent Kindersley for the first time this season. Head Coach and General Manager Tad Kozun said despite the losses last weekend, he’s confident in the young group.
“In Flin Flon we were outshot heavily but we never gave up, we never quit, we kept battling back,” he said Friday after them team’s morning meeting. “With La Ronge in town I thought we played well in the first period and then took our foot off the gas. We didn’t give up anything five-on-five, we gave up two shorthanded goals so we must shore that up, but we will be ok here.”
The Hawks returned just six players this season from last and have a significant amount of players with minimal junior ‘A’ experience. Many played their first games in the SJHL last weekend. Kozun said now with a couple games experience his players have settled into a routine he hopes will benefit the club going forward.
