Christmas Castle returns to Historic Post Office in Melfort

Nov 28, 2024 | 12:26 PM

Melfort’s Christmas Castle is returning in December after a one-year hiatus.

The Christmas Castle begins Dec. 6 at the Historic Post Office. The event wasn’t held in 2023 as crews were doing remediation work on flaking lead paint in the facility.

Volunteer Tara Muntain told northeastNOW the facility is transformed for the holiday season.

“You can walk through, and you’ve got Christmas decorations, Christmas trees, you’ve got different entertainment nightly,” Muntain explained. She said it gets you in the Christmas spirit and forces people to slow down, take a moment, and enjoy the season.

The return of the event in 2024 is exciting for Muntain and those organizing the Christmas Castle. Muntain said people that have participated in the Christmas Castle in the past were encouraged that it was coming back this year.

“It seems like Melfort has organically grown into this Christmas feel-good moment with all of the different activities, and I’m glad the Christmas Castle is one of the things that is part of it.”

The event was started by Dr. Yemi and his wife Foluke. Muntain thanked them for spearheading the Christmas Castle, the City of Melfort for supporting Christmas Castle, and all of the volunteers that make it possible.

Christmas Castle is open 6 to 9 o’clock every night from Dec. 6 to 22. Muntain suggested several visits to fully embrace the winter wonderland.

“Because there is different live entertainment every night, it is definitely something you’re going to want to come to more than just the once,” said Muntain. “Take a moment to breathe it in.”

The event is free. Donations are accepted for a local non-profit, and the Memorial Tree with money going to the North Central Health Care Foundation.
