Hawks head to Flin Flon to begin final week of 2024 schedule
The Nipawin Hawks have three games remaining prior to the Christmas break with the first being Tuesday in Flin Fon against the Bombers.
Coming off a 3-0 loss to La Ronge Saturday that snapped a five game home points streak and a four game point streak overall, Head Coach Tad Kozun’s message to his group this week is don’t look too far ahead.
“Obviously we have been playing some pretty good hockey lately and getting some results now with the growth the guys are making, but the biggest message here is don’t take anything for granted,” he said after the game day morning meeting. “These are three big games for us, and we have to make sure we’re ready to go and not looking to Christmas break.”
The Hawks have struggled against the Bombers in recent years. Nipawin has lost all four meetings this season and hasn’t won in Flin Flon since Sept. 17, 2022, in the Hawks home opener of the 2022-23 season. Their last victory at the Whitney Forum came on Feb. 15, 2022. The Hawks have lost 15 straight to the Bombers overall. Kozun said keeping their potent offence to the outside and being disciplined are key components if the Hawks hope to get over this hurdle.
