Two weekends in a row

Mustangs travel to Yorkton for first time this season

Jan 17, 2025 | 1:57 PM

The Melfort Mustangs are heading to Yorkton tonight for their first visit to Westland Arena this season.

Melfort hosted the Terriers last Saturday for the two club’s first meeting of the season, with the Mustangs winning 5-1.

The Stangs enter Friday night’s contest on a two-game winning streak, having won 19 of their last 20.

Meanwhile, Yorkton won their previous game 10-5 over the Battlefords North Stars, however, the Terriers had lost their previous three up to that point.

The last game for the Blue and Green came at home on Wednesday, as they took down the Kindersley Klippers 4-1, earning the season-series sweep.

Melfort was originally scheduled to play in Yorkton on Tuesday, Nov. 19, however, that game was postponed due to weather.

Tonight’s game was always scheduled to occur, with the remake contest set for Tuesday, Feb. 4.

Plenty of players in Friday’s match should have a little extra energy, as the SJ/MJ Showcase rosters were announced yesterday.

Of the 60 players named on Thursday, 16 combined are from either the Mustangs or Terriers, nine of which belong to Melfort, with the other seven coming from Yorkton.

Both coaches are also set to lead teams, as Trevor Blevins will guide the 20U White Team, while Emery Olauson will be the bench boss for the 18U Blue Team.

This evening’s matchup at the Westland Arena in Yorkton will be the second meeting of the season, with the fourth and final set for Wednesday, Mar. 5 in Melfort.

Puck drop later today between the Mustangs and the Terriers is set for 7 p.m., with all the action taking place on 105CJVR.
