The family of organ donor Logan Boulet has unveiled the winner of a national T-shirt design competition for Green Shirt Day, and the winner is originally from Humboldt.

Geoffrey Kehrig, who grew up in the city, designed the winning shirt featuring Boulet taking a slap shot.

The seventh annual Green Shirt Day, April 7, honours the victims of the 2018 Humboldt Broncos bus crash that killed 16 people, including the 21-year-old defenseman. Prior to the crash, Boulet had told his parents he was registering as an organ and tissue donor, inspired by his fitness coach and mentor Ric Suggitt who died in 2017. Suggitt’s donations saved six lives, and because of Logan’s decision, he too saved six people with his organ and tissue donations. A Canadian Blood Services news release said that in the weeks following the crash, Boulet inspired nearly 150,000 Canadians to register their donation decision, now widely known as the “Logan Boulet Effect.”

“Logan’s legacy reminds us how important it is for Canadians to talk with their family about their organ and tissue donation wishes. It will be up to families to give consent,” Logan’s mother, Bernadine Boulet said in the release.

“We would love that for every person who registers their intent to donate, they speak with four others about donation,” added Logan’s father, Toby Boulet. “Keep the conversation going… it’s so important.”

The unveiling of the t-shirt was used as an event to kick off the campaign leading up to Green Shirt Day. Kehrig explained the inspiration behind his design:

“After the bus crash, I purchased a Logan Boulet Humboldt Broncos jersey and I’ve proudly worn it while playing pick-up street hockey in my B.C. community,” said Kehrig. “I’m inspired by Logan’s unselfish choices and his reverence and compassion for others.”

Shirt sales support Green Shirt Day, the Canadian Transplant Association and the Logan Boulet Endowment Fund.

“More than 4,000 Canadians are waiting for a life-saving transplant. Each year approximately 250 people die waiting,” the Canadian Blood Services said in the news release. “The goal of Green Shirt Day 2025 is to inspire 100,000 Canadians to register their decision about organ and tissue donation and talk to four more people each. The Boulet family, the Canadian Transplant Association, Canadian Blood Services, Canada’s organ and tissue donation community and The Kidney Foundation of Canada, are urging Canadians to champion this life-saving cause.”

Other opportunities to support Green Shirt Day including becoming an ambassador, organizing a registration drive, and ordering an official Green Shirt Day shirt.
