Trojans swept in hard-fought playoff series; Rudy named coach of the year

Tisdale battled back from a 5-0 deficit heading into the third of game two to tie things up with seconds left.

The Blazers ended up winning the game in overtime.

In game three, the Trojans fought back from a pair of one-goal deficits to take the game to overtime.

Saskatoon once again won the game in overtime, advancing to the second round of the AAA playoffs.

The Trojans had an excellent showing in a season in which they started with a 2-5-5 record.

They went 23-8-1 the rest of the way and finished fifth in the AAA standings.

The turnaround also caught the eye of the league, as Head Coach Wes Rudy won the Joe Bloski Coach of the Year Award.

Defenceman Blake Girard was named a second team all-star in the Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League.

Girard had 11 goals and 34 assists in 44 games for the Trojans this season.

Meanwhile, a former Tisdale Trojan played a big part in the University of Saskatchewan Huskies’ Canada West championship win.

The Huskies beat the Mount Royal Cougars 3-0 in game three of their series, winning their first Canada West title since 2020.

Former Trojan Roddy Ross made 30 saves to shut out the Cougars, and Nationals will begin March 20 in Ottawa.

Ross spent the 2017-18 season with the Trojans, finishing with a sparkling 1.85 goals against average and a .940 save percentage in 22 games.
