Second Half Begins

Mustangs start 2026 in Flin Flon, against Bombers

Jan 2, 2026 | 12:56 PM

The year 2026 has now arrived, as the Melfort Mustangs are set to begin the second half of their season.

Melfort will start the new year in Northern Manitoba, as they head to Flin Flon to take on the Bombers.

The Mustangs have 28 games remaining in their 2025/26 regular season, as they sit 11-14-1-2 through their opening 28, seven points out of a playoff spot.

They’ll look to turn over a new leaf in the hardest place to play in the SJHL, against a club that sits in first place and has yet to lose to them this campaign.

The Stangs are 0 and 4 against the Bombers this season, and have been outscored 17-7 in the process.

Both teams are set to be without key players as Flin Flon’s Reid Arberry, Joey Lies, and Sam Ward are at the Viking Cup, along with Melfort’s Zayden Sadlemyer and Bo Eisner.

The Blue and Green last played on Dec. 20 when they fell 5-0 to the Nipawin Hawks.

Hopefully, the Christmas break came at the right time, and the two-time defending champs will soon get rolling.

Puck drop between the Mustangs and the Bombers is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., with the pregame show beginning at 7:15 p.m. on 105CJVR and CJVR.com
