Mustangs set for regular season finale with Hawks

Mar 13, 2026 | 4:02 PM

The Melfort Mustangs will play their regular-season finale on Friday as they travel to Nipawin to take on the Hawks.

Melfort is already locked into sixth place in the SJHL standings, so the result of tonight’s contest doesn’t technically matter.

The Mustangs have struggled against their division rivals this season, having won just one of their previous seven meetings. They have also failed to score in three matches in Nipawin this year.

For the Hawks, this evening’s contest is much more important, as they’re still vying for home-ice advantage in the playoffs.

The Stangs will likely have numerous APs (affiliate players) in their lineup to rest their 20-year-olds for the first round of the playoffs, which will likely begin next Friday (March 20).

Puck drop from the Cage in Nipawin is set for 7 p.m., as both teams conclude their regular season.

In other Mustang news, goaltender Kason Kobelka has been nominated as an SJHL Rookie of the Year candidate, while Bo Eisner has been nominated as an SJHL Defenceman of the Year candidate.
