Mustangs add Telus Cup forward

The Melfort Mustangs continue to bolster their young depth. After three recent commitments to forwards, Melfort has now committed a defenceman to the roster for next season.

Regina native Xavier Doane has signed with the organization for the 2026/27 campaign. The 17-year-old is currently a member of his hometown Pat Canadians, who will soon begin their journey for a second consecutive Telus Cup.

In 35 regular-season contests in U18 AAA action this year, the 2008-born blueliner produced three goals and 11 assists, good for 14 points. In an additional 11 playoff matches, Doane had two assists.

Doane and the Pat Canadians will begin their Telus Cup run on April 20, following their Provincial and Western Regional Championship wins.
