Twelve-run, two-out rally leads Cabri over Saskatoon in Melfort

This was the first time Melfort has ever hosted provincial senior ball, with the host NorthEast RedSox rarely playing in their home ballpark due to the fact that they compete in a Saskatoon league.

Both opposing teams and Sask Baseball themselves had nothing but good things to say about the hosts, as the RedSox loved the experience despite the 0-3 weekend record.

“It’s a great opportunity whenever you get a chance to play in a beautiful ballpark, and we had a lot of fun. When we get a group of people from a few different communities come together and support something big like this, you’ve got to be happy with the result. We had compliments from everyone all over the province, and people were looking at real estate around Melfort because they were so impressed with our town. We love to support our community, and I think it’s a small step towards having a great time with baseball here in Melfort,” added RedSox player/tournament chair Kalen Senecal.

“We love senior ball. We want to play it here in Melfort, so the more games we can get in Melfort, where we can be in front of our fans, the better. The sponsorships were unbelievable, so they could make it easy to host again. In a couple of years, when we’re ready to do it, I hope that we can go to some of the community members around and say, we can make it as good as it was this time. When we’re ready to say that will happen, we’ll be there, ready to host again for the rest of Saskatchewan.”

The RedSox will now turn their attention to league playoffs this week, where they’ll look to keep their season alive against the Saskatoon Brewers.
