City of Melfort sets up security camera system registry
Propoerty owners in Melfort with a security camera system can now register it with the city.
Director of Corporate Services Lydia Steffen told northeastNOW that the registry is voluntary.
“[The registry] helps the city and RCMP identify privately owned security cameras in the community that may have footage relevant to a crime or an incident,” Steffen said.
She added that the registry is designed to allow the police to identify nearby cameras more quickly, and contact camera owners to request relevant footage, in an effort to curb criminal activity in the community.
