“It definitely felt nice to pot a couple, but the important thing was that these guys played really hard. We were pretty physical, and although we were young in comparison, we showed the opposition who the big guys were, so it was good to get the job done,” Janzen explained.

“We’re definitely expecting a pushback Tuesday night, especially in their barn. Even though it’s only preseason, it’s still a great rivalry we have with them, so we gotta be prepared. They’re gonna reload and have an edge on us, so we’re gonna have to be ready, and I think we will be.”

For Janzen, this isn’t the first time he’s been one of 75 hopeful players looking to make the Blue and Green, as he was one of those last year, but as a 17-year-old.

While he remained in the SMAAAHL, suiting up for the Warman Wildcats, he did AP with the Stangs four times throughout the year before committing in January and proving himself as a reliable future piece, likely to make it this time around.

“I kind of want to play like nothing’s guaranteed. Earn your spot because nothing’s given, and everything’s earned. I try and go out there and prove myself as much as I can, and just show and offer that I can be a team player for them,” added the Martsenville native.

“For the guys who experienced last year at all, there’s an edge that’s being brought into this year because of how things ended. We’re honestly all ready to get going now, and that showed with how hard we played in our first preseason game. We’re ready to start.”
