Believe in the Gold walk held in Melfort Thursday

She said the walk is to help those who need a helping hand during what is a very difficult time and raise awareness of childhood cancers.

“Trying to help raise money for families in need, financially, or even just to let them know that we’re out here if they need a shoulder,” Durell said. “September is Childhood Cancer Month, and that’s why we picked September [to walk].”

Durell said she is very thankful that Saskatoon has a Ronald McDonald House for families dealing with cancer, with her daughter living there for the better part of a year while her granddaughter Zarah was battling the disease at just 15 months of age. Durell said Zarah is now 11 years old and doing well.

A group of walkers came by to support the cause, with all money raised going to Saskatchewan families with children fighting cancer. A barbecue will take place at Legion Place through 6:30 p.m. Thursday, with a burger, drink, and cookie costing $10.

Durell thanked everyone for their support of the event throughout the years, and had this message:

“Live life and help others.”
