Adjourned in June

Chubey murder trial scheduled to restart Wednesday

Oct 7, 2026 | 5:00 AM

After a four-month delay, the Cody Chubey murder trial is expected to resume Wednesday at Melfort Court of King’s Bench.

The trial was adjourned in June at the request of defense counsel Peter Abrametz, who asked for the delay for ‘mental element’.

Abrametz is expected to call expert witnesses to testify about Chubey’s mental state during the time of the murder of his long-time partner, Danielle Dobersheck, at the Carra Valla Inn in March of 2024.

During the Crown’s case, which wrapped up prior to the adjournment, multiple witnesses testified that Chubey had repeatedly accused Dobersheck of cheating on him, and that he was jealous and insecure.

A former partner of Dobersheck’s father Darris, Xaviera Bird, testified that she was worried about Chubey’s mental health, and there were concerns that he was hearing voices in his head. Danielle’s daughter, Daysha Dobersheck, also testified that, while unfounded, Chubey always thought Danielle was cheating on him, and that her mother told her that Cody was having hallucinations.

Following the adjournment, Darris Dobersheck expressed his frustration with the delay, telling northeastNOW that he would have liked to have seen some finalization. He said the amount of support he and the family have received during the trial has been incredible, with Danielle’s former co-workers at North East Outreach and Support Services (NEOSS) attending court proceedings.

The trial is expected to last through the rest of the week.
